DBT Chain Analysis

Chain Analysis is all about getting a complete picture of a behavior: what it was, how it started, and, importantly, what are the things that are maintaining or keeping the behavior repeating over time. When done correctly, both you and your client will be able to have a snapshot of all of the variables that are at work during a behavior, highlight the patterns in behaviors and find new behaviors to put to work for your client. You will be able to make informed hypotheses about what drives the behavior and you will be able to do so in a collaborative way with your client.

The Chain Analysis online training will teach you the 6 steps in conducting effective analyses of behavior. Our Chain Analysis experts will be there to guide you and model how to complete chain analyses as you evaluate sample chains of behavior, review case studies and participate in activities to help you learn. When you are finished you will be ready to use Behavioral Chain Analyses with your own clients.

DBT Validation Strategies

When clients get emotionally upset, therapy can come to a halt. Clients with multiple problems have a sensitivity to emotional stimuli that heightens their emotions. This online training course teaches how self-constructs and self-verification theory contribute to emotional arousal in clients. You will learn the definition of validation with the six levels of validation in DBT.

This course offers practice on all six levels of validation strategies through interactive exercises, stories, metaphors, case examples, and commentary.

Mastery of Anxiety & Panic for Adolescents (MAP-A)

Panic disorder often first appears in adolescence. Left untreated, it can severely impair an adolescent's development and functioning, having serious consequences in adulthood. Mastery of Anxiety & Panic for Adolescents (MAP-A) was developed at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders at Boston University for clients age 12-17. MAP-A helps clinicians working with adolescents understand and explain the underpinnings of the disorder; teach their clients to ‘ride the wave’ of anxiety; confront their internal feelings of discomfort in a safe, graduated manner; and not avoid or escape situations when their anxiety is rising. This online course is designed to bring the Oxford University Press Treatments that Work Manual: Mastery of Anxiety and Panic for Adolescents to life.

DBT Skills Training

BTECH-R's first online course released in 2005; this highly interactive course teaches all the skills in all four DBT skills modules (Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance and Emotion Regulation), as well as an extra module, the steps in Skills Coaching. This course is designed to teach specific content while demonstrating exactly how to teach and coach skills and what to do when clients don’t understand the skills or don’t use them.

Existing DBT Skills Training video tapes were translated into American Sign Language (ASL). BTECH-R partnered with the Deaf Wellness Project at the University of Rochester with the goal of further disseminating DBT to the deaf and hard-of-hearing population. The two videos translated were From Suffering to Freedom: Practicing Reality Acceptances and Opposite Action: Changing Emotions You Want to Change.
